Where I'm From

Where I Am From:

When you ask me where I am from

What is it you want to know?

There is no makeup on this face

Painted by the sun

My race is universal

My religion is love

The peace you sense in me is the forest

The music you hear in my voice is the ocean

The clashing waves of melancholy and joy

You see in my eyes is the rivers

I carry with me wherever I go

The way the night carries the darkness

And the days the light of the sun

Place has no meaning,

Culture has no meaning to me

I am just another wild flower

Among the thousands aroused by the spring

Returned to dust by the certainty of death

If you really want to know where I am from

Close your eyes and sing, cry,

Laugh with me until all the leaves have fallen off the trees

And the flood streams have washed away this land

Then returned to the sun

There in the magic of living and dying

Of all things. There! That is where I am from.
